Max Payne 3 hitting Mac tomorrow

Published at 9:28 PM PST

Max Payne 3 will be available for Mac tomorrow, June 20th, Rockstar announced via Twitter late yesterday:

No word currently on whether the game will receive STEAMPLAY compatibilty on Steam - allowing PC players to play it on Mac also, without an additional purchase - or whether the game will be available via the Mac App Store. Chances are it will join fellow Rockstar games GTA: San Andreas (currently the #8 Top Paid in the Mac App Store), GTA: Vice City and GTA III in both the Mac App Store and Steam at the same time.

Mac gaming has been growing in leaps and bounds, thanks in part to iOS's popularity and Steam's compatibility with Mac and Linux. This sort of release, although a year after the release of the game on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, does bring forward the possibility of other Rockstar games hitting the Mac platform in the future. Grand Theft Auto V on a MacBook with Retina Display? That'd be nearly as good as Max Payne 3 at 4K.

The required Mac System Specifications are included below and on the official website:

Mac OS X 10.7.5 Lion
Intel Dual Core Xeon / Core i Series 2.4 GHZ or greater
4GB System RAM
NVIDIA® 8800GT 512MB VRAM or AMD Radeon HD 4870 512 VRAM
HDD Space: 35GB

Update #1: Max Payne 3 is now available via the Australian Mac App Store for AU$41.99; the download clocks in at 32.51GB. It should hit the US, and additional stores, within the next 12 hours. No mention on the store page of whether the game comes with all released DLC, or if it will be available later on.

Update #2: It is now live on the US Mac App Store for US$39.99.
