First Grand Theft Auto V Screenshots

Published at 6:18 PM PST

As a long time fan, I know that Rockstar places long gaps between both their game releases and the release of media on games. This ensures that everything Rockstar works on - be it a game, an event, or just media for an up-and-coming game - is given a fair chance to be on show and discussed, and they are able to put full effort into everything they do. It's a process, once which benefits everyone involved.

That being said, Grand Theft Auto V seems to be driving a lot of enthusiasm. Some fans have been taking their excitement a little too far as of late, hijacking the comment areas of news articles on completely unrelated games or news, and ruining the experience for other players who are being patient and enjoying Max Payne 3. Rockstar responded to this today in their latest issue of Asked & Answered by showing two screenshots of the game:

Furthermore, they had this to say:

As we have said before, we have often had long gaps between asset releases on previous games and will continue to do so in the future. We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don’t do this because we ‘don’t care about our fans' 'don’t respect our fans’ 'hate GTA fans etc' – precisely the opposite! We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it. The only things we care about are that you enjoy the experience of actually playing the game and that we release accurate information. We just have not been in a position to show more of the game than the trailer and will not be for a while yet. We did, however, manage to sneak a quick screenshot out for you… it’s not much, but we thought it was pretty fun.

Hopefully this will allow a few unruly fans to sleep a little easier at night. Grand Theft Auto V is very much on the way, but it won't be here for awhile yet, and suggesting it will be out this year is a little far-fetched at this point. Stop listening to the inaccurate assumptions from analysts and the media, look at the facts: we have one trailer and two screenshots, with nothing more on the way for awhile, so please give Max Payne 3 the respect it deserves and its time in the spotlight.
