YouTube has many, many, videos of Midnight Club LA, in fact it's interesting to note that the game has been receiving as much media attention as Grand Theft Auto IV. However as we all know we have seen no in-game video of GTA IV yet, interesting looking at the difference between the two.

Anyway, on with the news, psnathome.com (anyone ever heard of them? neither) have released some exclusive footage of Midnight Club LA which they apparently caught at a car show recently. The video is below, it includes a small race of just over a minute, shows off some of the city and how the cars handle. All in all, it's quiet fancy, check it out.

Animation software company Image Metrics today announced that there facial animation solution is being used by Rockstar in upcoming titles Midnight Club: Los Angeles and Grand Theft Auto IV.

The animation solution is a newly developed software that allows realistic facial movement on game characters faces without the need for markers or makeup. Basically, turning something that once took days, week and months to perfect into a 10 minute job. Below is a short demo reel by Image Metrics showing off it's possibilities:

Quietly, Rockstar has sent IGN the boxart for Midnight Club: Los Angeles. It's unknown if this is the final boxart but it sure looks nice none the less. Hopefully, we'll get high-res versions in the near future.

UPDATE: Rockstar have released news via their RSS Feed of the covers being announced, stating that they are the "official front of box art". The news article which consisted of just one image had high-res versions of the covers, which we cut into separate images and can now be seen by clicking the appropriate thumbnail to the right. Enjoy!

Also, StrategyInformer posted eight (8) new screenshots of MC4, you can find all of them below:

Does this game just keep looking better and better or what? We can't wait to see some gameplay, and cross fingers, a second trailer!

IGN recently got a chance to have a Q&A session with Jay Panek, a producer at Rockstar San Diego. He talks about the history and the future of the Midnight Club franchise and new stuff that is going to be included with the new installment, Los Angeles. Some of the new features Jay mentions are a race editor, dynamic weather, reputation points, and much more. He also points out improvements to current features as well like online for example. For anyone worried about load times, Midnight Club LA will feature only ONE load screen at the start of the game. Once that loading is done, that's it. No more loading. Even when switching game modes or starting a race. Certainly a big improvement over the last Midnight Club games. In addition to the new information is new screenshots. We must say that RAGE never looked so beautiful!

A few people recently got a chance to play Midnight Club: Los Angeles for the Xbox 360. Luckly, they where able to take some video clips and post them on YouTube for us to enjoy. In one of the videos, you can see the person changing the radio to a song called "Running From Love" by Freddie Cruger. You can listen to the full song at his MySpace. In the videos, you also get a peek at the "finish" tune that plays and the map. If you are not planning on getting Los Angeles, you still might want to watch the videos as this might very well be our first glimpse at what driving in Grand Theft Auto IV will be like.

Internode Games was lucky enough to get a sneak peak look at the upcoming Midnight Club: LA. Like the other previews, they thought the visuals were amazing, as was the gameplay. They also mentioned how detailed the city of LA looked, which I can’t wait to get a chance to get a look at.

"It's worth pointing out the level of authenticity of the game's locations, with many of LA's more famous landmarks such as The House of Blues and Miyagi's making an appearance... and it's worth noting the map size for this release will be bigger than all three of the previous games combined. Yes, big is in fact best."

"Midnight Club LA appears to be the evolutionary pinnacle of the series, drawing together all of the tried and tested elements that made the past titles so successful, adding in newer next-gen features that other titles will find hard pressed to match, certainly within 2008. And who better to offer what easily looks like a genre-defining racing title than the originators of the concept. With the amount of confidence oozing out of Rockstar, they know they have a winner and it's their intention that as many others know it too. This is definitely one title to watch out for."

No new images though [we'll probably have to wait a few more months for these] but you can read the full preview here.

ComputerAndVideoGames today posted an interesting article on Rockstar Game's comments regarding the upcoming Midnight Club: Los Angeles. "It's only the beginning" said Rockstar, proud of their "most ambitious project to date". San Diego's upcoming racer has been coined as being better then North's Grand Theft Auto IV, graphics wise it looks more stylish with a terrific re-creation of real-world Los Angeles.

How San Diego managed to do such a top-notch job of developing a map of this magnitude in such preciseness is unknown, and no doubt mind-blowing. CVG's spokesman jokily said "The fact that they live two hours away probably helped". Rockstar is promising this is just the beginning, so whats under the hood of this next-gen racer? Well we'll just have to wait and see as over the next few months we see the details unfold.

CVG has preview Rockstar's upcoming racer and by the sound of it [and looks] it is gonna be amazing! According to thier preview, not only does it look better than GTA IV, but has faster gameplay than Burnout, and they are two compliments.

Graphically at least, Midnight Club: LA looks even better than GTA IV. Running on the same RAGE engine that powers all of Rockstar's next-gen games, the San Diego division has managed to create a free-roaming racer of such scale that... well, we can't quite believe it took them less than a few years to develop.
Seamless, open and intense are the words we’d put on the back of the box. It looks like, bar any sort of knock-out competition from the new Burnout, this will be the Mid Club instalment to finally bring some recognition to the franchise - which its easily forgot is the publisher’s second best selling IP behind GTA.

  • Digitalism - Idealistic - This is the song used in the trailer, it seems to be briefly edited in places but not much.

Resources:

Note: In one of the shots the 3000GT is driving in a narrow street, with small buildings either side, however when the camera cuts to the rims, they are reflecting skyscrapers, which questions whether or not everything has true reflections.

Hope you find the information useful, the teams been working hard de-coding the trailer and we will continue to do so. If you still haven't seen the trailer, best do so now! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c68cg6Y3aiE.
