Chris O'Donnell, known for his role as Robin in the Batman movies, hasn't landed a major film role since 2000's Vertical Limit. However, he has just landed a major role in the upcoming Max Payne movie alongside Mark Wahlberg (The Italian Job, Four Brothers, The Sniper) and Mila Kunis (The 70's Show, Family Guy).

The movie started filming on March the 2nd and is suspected for release on October the 17th (2009 we suspect, however it is not clarified if it is a 2008 or 2009 release).

EW gives an insite into the movies script also:

Payne is the story of a cop (Wahlberg), haunted by the death of his family, who's hot on the heels of a series of new murders.

The upcoming Max Payne movie, penned by Beau Thorne and directed by John Moore (the same guy behind 'The Omen' and 'Behind Enemy Lines') is set to begin filming in Toronto on March 2nd. The movie is expected to remain in pre-production until 2010 and features 'The Italian Job' star Mark Wahlberg.

With recent movie adaptation flops such as 'Hitman' floating around, Max Payne will have to make good use of these two years to buck the trend. Or maybe the 2010 release date could be giving Rockstar a few years to finish of the yet-to-be-announced, much speculated Max Payne 3 (Game)?

Mark WahlbergIt's been on and off for a few years now, but it seems the Max Payne movie is finally set to get underway early next year. Today Variety Online posted an article stating that the actor being cast in the main role of Max Payne is in fact Mark Wahlberg, they added:

Wahlberg is negotiating to play the titular cop who is haunted by the tragic loss of his family and has little regard for rules as he investigates a series of mysterious murders. He finds himself up against an adversary bent on destroying Max and the streets he protects.

Sounds like it will be following the original Max Payne's story line. John Moore is directing the film and has directed many popular movies such as "Behind Enemy Lines," "Flight of the Phoenix" and "The Omen" just to name a few. The film is looking to be quite successful, and hopefully unlike most game to movie adaptions this one holds true to it's origin and managed to find a way to combine game development with movie masterage.

Plus, with all this news of the new film, it gets me wondering, when will we be seeing Max Payne 3...? More news on the film and sequel game as it becomes available.
