GTA: Chinatown Wars News
WARNING
We are currently in the process of moving servers, due to this some of RockstarWatch may not appear as it should. We have managed to place a partly working version of the website on the new server, that is what you are currently viewing. Before the server move we were working on a huge overhaul and update to the website, for the time being this has been placed on hiatus until we complete our server move and configuration. However, rest assured the new and highly improved version of RockstarWatch is just around the corner!

Kind regards,
Jared & Aj

This morning Take-Two announced that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be making it's way to the PSP this fall. The game has been retooled for the PSP featuring upscaled widescreen graphics, enhanced lighting, enhanced animation, and all-new story missions. It's going to be interesting to see how Rockstar Leeds translates the DS version's touchscreen mechanics to the PSP. The PSP version releases this fall on in both UMD and download from PSN formats.

You may have noticed that there is an ad for "Mr. Wong's Laundromat" at the top of the Social Club page for Chinatown Wars. While Social Club fails to give any details about Wong's, Rockstar's online partner GameSpy, gives us some insight.

Once at the Rockstar Social Club, registered users can also play Flash games like Mr Wong’s Laundromat to unlock additional cash that can be spent back in the game. GameSpy’s custom work links money earned out of game straight back into your in-game funds to spend on bigger guns and more ammo (and you can never have enough of that).

Pretty neat, huh?

Last night's episode of Comedy Central's South Park gave some spotlight to Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. The episode concentrates on the ever worsening economy and confronts who's at fault for South Park's economy turndown. While part of the episode focused on Cartman, and how the economy was getting in the way of him getting his hands on Chinatown Wars:

"Of all the times for people to decide to stop buying things, it had to be the week that Grand Theft Auto IV comes out for Nintendo DS!" - Cartman

I'm not sure if the reference to "Grand Theft Auto IV" is a simple mistake, or if it is relating the fact that Chinatown Wars is set in the same city as GTA IV, in which case I guess the two games could be considers an extention of one-another, but it's hardly important to the episode though.

Cartman and his wanting to have the game continued, later in the episode he was talking with his friends about a dream he had the previous night:

"I had a dream last night. I was in a field, and I had Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars right next to me. But then the sky went black and...Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars just melted in my hands." - Cartman

Further on in the episode, Cartman confronts the self-assigned leaders of the economy who are trying to find a way to solve an issue, somebody is talking out against the leaders and gaining the attention of the people of South Park. The leaders decide they must remove this person from the community in-order to keep the economy afloat. Cartman at this point enters the room and offers his services, at a price, obviously...

"The person you're after might be hard to get, but I can bring him to you. And all I want in return...is Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for handheld Nintendo DS." - Cartman

Nice to see a GTA game receiving some good publicity for once, and not to mention, it's terrific to see a game that wasn't as hyped as previous ones receiving some attention. The South Park episode will be repeated numour times over the next week. But if you live in the US and want to see it immediatly, you can watch it online at the official South Park website.

We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Rockstar and everyone involved in bring GTA to the Nintendo DS. The game turned out great, once again Rockstar took a seemingly limited handheld system, as they did with the PlayStation Portable, and did things we would never have thought possible. Chinatown Wars lived up to true Grand Theft Auto tradition and impressed all of us at RockstarWatch, as we'd imagine it did everyone who bought the game. Top job Rockstar!
